    I agree David, it is definitely a process of evolution and Google gets better, as SEO specialists, so must we :)

    I feel all of this is correct, but over time many other factors have come into play including:
    freshness of links
    age of links
    age of pages or domains
    Contextual relationship and more

    Google has gotten better at spotting links that are easily obtained, and better at spotting links that are in meaningful places, such as high traffic hub sites. We just have to keep studying google and trying learn and improve our strategies.
